Kip's Castle was built over the span of 3 years in 1905 by Fredric Ellsworth Kip and his wife Charlotte Bishop Kip. Fredric Ellsworth Kip was a wealthy Textile inventor and industrialist, who published many books about U.S. tariff laws. The castle was meant to be a gift for Fredric Ellsworth Kip's wife, but when she died in 1926, the private residence was sold to an oil baron named Signono Munoz who lived there up until 1980 when it was sold once again, it then got purchased in the month of March in the year 2007 by Essex County.
