This town is a tourism-based Northeastern USA destination established by four Methodist ministers in 1879. The bridge was built in 1912. The building in the Ocean is the 1929-built music pier. It hosts minor concerts sometimes, but is not a massive venue. The prominently-featured boardwalk was built in the 1880s, before the end of the Chinese Emperors. The boardwalk has 2 amusement parks. One is the photo's location. This is Playland's Castaway Cove, built on a location of hotel pools in the 90s. The photo is taken on the Ferris Wheel here. Down the boardwalk is Wonderland, which has a long history. Roy Gillian opened it in a location where an amusement park called Playland had burned down. It has a very tall ferris wheel that is seen near the blue roller coaster. Roy’s son Jay is the mayor of Ocean City and his father also held that post. This town is built around the beach, which is east of the boardwalk. This is why this location was selected back by the ministers. It is a mostly Philadelphia based beach town currently, and has been since a train route was established around the turn of the 1900s. Many businesses are along the boardwalk. One business seen in the picture is Three Brothers Pizza, which makes “The World's Largest Pizza.” Due to this, Ocean City is a great example of Culture in My Area. |
