The picture is of Marble House. Marble House is a manor that was built 1888 to 1892. It was a summer cottage for Alva and William Kissam Vanderbilt. The House covers 140,000 square feet in Newport, Rhode Island. The house is made almost entirely of marble. The mansion cost around 16 million dollars to build, which translates to 332 million dollars today.The mansion has fifty rooms. It also required 36 staff members to function properly, (this includes butlers, maids, coachmen, and footmen.) This mansion was only the Vanderbilt's summer cottage. They only spent around 12-14 weeks at the mansion per year.
